Artists Meet Left Leaders at CPI(M)'s 24th Party Congress to Condemn Attacks on Creative Freedom

Renowned actor Prakash Raj, along with acclaimed filmmakers Mari Selvaraj and T.J. Gnanavel, met with Kerala Chief Minister and CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan on the sidelines of the CPI(M)'s 24th Party Congress. Also present during the meeting were senior Left leaders, including former Tripura Chief Minister Comrade Manik Sarkar and Comrade M.A. Baby.
The delegation of artists discussed the growing concerns over targeted attacks on members of the creative community, specifically referencing the recent actions by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax (IT) Department against Malayalam actor Prithviraj and individuals associated with the much-anticipated film Empuraan.
Speaking on the issue, Prakash Raj condemned these developments and said, “Your fear is their power,” underlining the broader implications such intimidation tactics pose to freedom of expression and democratic values in the country.
The interaction highlighted the solidarity between progressive political forces and members of the artistic fraternity in defending civil liberties and resisting authoritarian pressures on cultural voices.
