CPI(M) 24th Party Congress Urges Government to Abandon 'One Nation, One Election' Plan

MADURAI, TAMIL NADU – April 5, 2025 – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], currently holding its 24th Party Congress in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, has strongly condemned the proposed 'One Nation, One Election' initiative, demanding that the central government abandon the plan.

According to Resolution 24 released during the Congress (taking place from April 2nd to 6th, 2025), the party views the continuous efforts by the BJP-led government to implement simultaneous elections as detrimental to India's democratic framework and federal structure.

The resolution argues that the 'One Nation, One Election' concept fundamentally opposes democratic and federal principles. It further contends that the idea aligns with authoritarian slogans akin to "One Nation, One Religion, One Language, One Culture, One Leader."

The CPI(M)'s 24th All India Conference, therefore, formally urges the central government to cease its pursuit of this electoral system overhaul. This resolution highlights a key political stance being deliberated and solidified by the party during its crucial national gathering in Madurai.
