In a significant political development, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) concluded its first meeting of the newly elected Central Committee by announcing a refreshed 18-member Polit Bureau. The election follows the 24th Party Congress, where a new Central Committee comprising 85 members, including several new faces, was constituted.

The newly elected Polit Bureau reflects both continuity and renewal within the party's highest decision-making body. Prominent leaders such as Pinarayi Vijayan, B.V. Raghavulu, M.A. Baby, Tapan Sen, and Md Salim retain their positions, signaling a stable leadership core. The Bureau also includes other senior leaders like Nilotpal Basu, A. Vijayaraghavan, Ashok Dhawale, Ramchandra Dome, and M.V. Govindan Master.

In a notable move aimed at rejuvenation, eight new members have been inducted into the Polit Bureau. These include:

  • Amra Ram
  • Vijoo Krishnan
  • Mariam Dhawale
  • U Vasuki
  • K. Balakrishnan
  • Jitendra Choudhury
  • Srideep Bhattacharya
  • Arun Kumar

This expanded leadership reflects a conscious effort by the party to incorporate wider regional, gender, and generational representation. The inclusion of leaders such as Mariam Dhawale and U Vasuki also signals a focus on women’s representation in leadership roles.

The Central Committee itself features an impressive mix of seasoned politicians and fresh entrants, with 56 men and 29 women. Among the new additions to the Central Committee are Anurag Saxena and H.I. Bhatt, bringing the total strength to 85, with one seat remaining vacant.

The CPI(M)’s 24th Congress has clearly emphasized its commitment to organizational renewal while retaining its ideological steadfastness. With key challenges ahead in the national political landscape, the newly formed Polit Bureau is expected to play a critical role in shaping the party’s strategy and mass movements across the country.
