Jaishankar Warns of Growing Global Economic Weaponization and Supply Chain Risks
New Delhi – External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has raised critical concerns regarding the escalating unpredictability within the global political and economic order. He specifically highlighted the alarming trend of "weaponization of economic activities," where market shares and economic capabilities are being leveraged for geopolitical advantage.
Speaking at a recent forum, Jaishankar emphasized the intensified geopolitical competition, noting that nations are increasingly using economic tools as strategic weapons. He also pointed to the inherent risks associated with the over-concentration of manufacturing, which poses a significant threat to the reliability of global supply chains.
"The over-concentration of manufacturing and the reliability of supply chains have become overriding concerns," Jaishankar stated. He stressed the importance of strategic autonomy and the need for nations to diversify their trade partnerships to mitigate these risks.
India, he indicated, is actively working to enhance its relationships with Asian countries and broaden its trade networks to navigate the current volatile global environment. This strategic shift aims to secure a more resilient and stable economic future for the nation.
Jaishankar's remarks underscore the growing recognition of economic security as a critical component of national security in the 21st century.
