Magnitude 5.8 Earthquake in Afghanistan Sends Tremors Across Northern India
NEW DELHI: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale struck Afghanistan earlier today, Saturday, April 19, 2025, with tremors being felt across several parts of northern India, including the Delhi-NCR region and Jammu & Kashmir.
The National Center for Seismology confirmed the seismic event occurred at 12:17 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).
Residents in northern India reported feeling the ground shake. In Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, the tremors caused momentary panic.
Reports of tremors also came in from the National Capital Region (NCR), encompassing Delhi and surrounding cities.
There were no immediate reports of significant damage or casualties in India resulting from the earthquake.
