Md. Salim Visits Violence-Stricken Murshidabad, Offers Solidarity to Grieving Families
Murshidabad: In a powerful display of solidarity, Polit Bureau member and CPIM West Bengal State Secretary Comrade Md. Salim, accompanied by Central Committee member Comrade Meenakshi Mukherjee, visited the violence-ravaged villages of Jafrabad and Suti in Murshidabad district. The visit brought attention to the human cost of the recent violence and the alleged failures of law enforcement.
In Jafrabad, Comrade Salim met the heartbroken family of Haragobinda Das and his son Chandan Das, CPIM sympathizers who lost their lives in a brutal act of violence. The father and son, in a courageous attempt to protect their village from rioters, were mercilessly hacked to death. As Comrade Salim listened to their story, the grieving family and villagers recounted the terror of the night, emphasizing the complete absence of police protection in the area. Their voices, filled with pain and frustration, underscored a grave lapse in governance and security.
The tragedy in Jafrabad was compounded by the events in nearby Suti, where police action contrasted starkly. There, Comrade Salim met the family of Izaz Ahmed, a 21-year-old youth killed in indiscriminate police firing. The young man’s untimely death is a stark reminder of the disproportionate use of force in areas already reeling from violence.
Comrade Salim’s efforts to reach the affected families were met with resistance from the police, who attempted to block his path. Despite this, he persevered in his mission of solidarity, breaking through barricades to stand by the victims and their communities. His visit highlighted the party’s commitment to justice and support for those marginalized in times of crisis.
Speaking to the media, Comrade Salim condemned the violence and questioned the state’s role in failing to protect its citizens. He called for an impartial inquiry into the incidents and demanded accountability from the administration. “The pain and suffering of these families are unbearable. They have been abandoned when they needed the system the most,” he said.
Comrade Meenakshi Mukherjee, who accompanied Salim, expressed her deep sorrow and anger at the state’s failures. “The courage of people like Haragobinda and Chandan Das must not go in vain. Their sacrifices remind us of the need to stand united against violence and injustice,” she added.
The visit has sparked widespread discussions about the state of law and order in Murshidabad and the government’s role in ensuring justice for the victims.
